- Go to the Web page that shows the statistics you want to download.
- Press Ctrl/A to select (block, highlight) the text on this page.
- Choose Save As (or Save As File) from your browser's File menu.
- When the Save As pop-up box appears,
- specify the directory or folder in which you want to save the statistics
- enter a new file name - use .txt as the extension (for example, CTYPOP96.TXT)
- click on the down arrow at the end of the Save as type box, then choose Plain Text
- click on the Save box
- Check to make sure the file is in the directory or folder you intended to save it in.
How to Import the Statistics File You've Saved into Excel
- Start Excel
- Choose Open from Excel's File menu
- When the Open File pop-up box appears,
- select the directory in which the statistics file you want to open is located
- click on the down arrow at the end of the List Files of Type box, then choose Text Files
- double-click on the file you want to open
- When the Step 1 Text Import Wizard pop-up box appears, click the Next button at the bottom of the box.
- When the Step 2 box appears, click Next again.
- When the Step 3 box appears, click the Finish button.
- Once you see your imported statistics file, delete any rows or columns you don't want (text at the top, blank rows, unneeded variables, text at the bottom).
- Widen your columns as necessary.
- Save your modified spreadsheet.
